Permanent Commissions of Cuban Parliament in Session
HAVANA, Cuba, July 7 (acn) The 12 permanent working commissions of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament), constituted with a provisional nature last May, are in session on Monday and Tuesday at Havana’s Convention Center.Each commission discusses specific topics related to the social and economic life of the country.For example, the Energy and Environment Commission discusses, among other themes, the problems that affect energy efficiency and saving in the country.Meanwhile, the Commission of Industry and Construction analyzes the situation of investments to solve problems related to water supply, the national production of medicines and the housing program.Other commissions discuss topics such as the prospects of foreign investment, the commercialization of agricultural products, the results of the 2007-2008 sugar campaign, etc.The 12 permanent working commissions will be approved during the first ordinary period of sessions of the current legislature of the National Assembly next Friday, July 11th.

Pastors for Peace Ratify Solidarity with Cuban Five
HAVANA, Cuba, July 7 (acn) Rev. Lucius Walker, leader of the Pastors for Peace US religious group in solidarity with Cuba, reiterated on Sunday their support of the cause of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States.“We are fully committed to the cause of Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez,” Rev.Walter told ACN.Pastors for Peace arrived in Cuba this weekend with 100 tons of humanitarian aid after overcoming some impediments at the US-Mexico border where US customs agents seized 35 computers from them.The religious group brought a humanitarian donation of computers, vehicles, medical equipment, and educational, artistic and sports equipment.The members of Pastors for Peace, which is a project of the US’s Inter-religious Foundation for the Community Organization, collected the aid during a tour of 12 cities in Canada and 125 in the United States.Rev. Walker added that during this tour they explained the case of the Cuban Five – as they are internationally known – who were arrested in 1998 for infiltrating anti-Cuba right-wing groups in South Florida that were organizing and carrying out terrorist actions against the Caribbean nation.On Monday, the solidarity group will participate in a workshop on the Cuban economic development and its electoral system. Later, they will pay tribute to Rev. Martin Luther King and will also attend a rally in solidarity with Cuba at the Jose Marti National Library in the Cuban capital. State delays lawsuit over traveling to Cuba

After a few weeks of uncertainty, business dealings will remain the same for Florida travel agencies specializing in trips to Cuba -- at least until August.A lawsuit between 16 Miami-Dade-based travel vendors and the state of Florida was initially scheduled for a federal court hearing on Friday, but it was postponed until Aug. 29 at the state's request.At stake is whether a law aimed at increasing state regulation of Florida travel agencies selling trips to Cuba unfairly targets a specific group of companies.
NO TIME TO PREPARE ''The long holiday weekend would not have given us sufficient time to prepare and provide a full and meaningful response,'' said Terence McElroy, spokesman for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.Sponsored by state Rep. David Rivera, a Miami Republican, the law requires travel agencies to post a $250,000 bond with the state and pay up to $2,500 in annual registration fees if they arrange trips to countries on the U.S. State Department's list of nations with ties to terrorist groups.
HEFTY REQUIREMENTS Approved by the state Legislature in May, the monetary requirements are 10 times stricter than for those travel agencies that don't sell trips to Cuba, or any of the other four countries on the federal terror list.The measure was slated to go into effect on July 1, but was temporarily lifted when the band of agencies filed a lawsuit in federal court on June 30.Last Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Alan S. Gold ruled to stop enforcement of the law until both sides could present their arguments.Since then, several agencies say they have been faced with the challenge of making customers aware that direct flights to Cuba from Miami are still operational and being sold.''We have gotten calls from customers who are unsure of whether they are still allowed to move forward with purchasing tickets, but we let them know that everything is carrying on as normal,'' said Armando Garcia, president of Marazul Charters Travel, one of the companies behind the lawsuit.

LA PAZ (AFP) - El gobierno boliviano autorizó una inédita edición facsimilar del diario y de una libreta de anotaciones manuscritas del guerrillero Ernesto Che Guevara, con prólogo que podría estar a cargo del líder cubano Fidel Castro, informó el lunes una fuente oficial."Se ha autorizado realizar una impresión facsimilar, con la utilización de un escáner para luego hacer una impresión a color, exactamente como son el diario y la libreta del Che Guevara y que nunca antes se hizo algo similar", informó a la AFP el viceministro de Cultura, Pablo Groux.Con autorización de la cancillería boliviana y en presencia del embajador de Cuba en La Paz, Rafael Dausa, se procedió el lunes a abrir los sobres lacrados que guardan los documentos del revolucionario argentino-cubano en las bóvedas del estatal Banco Central de Bolivia, detalló Groux.El viceministro dijo que "la aspiración que se tiene" es que el prólogo de esta inédita impresión "esté a cargo" de Fidel Castro y del presidente de Bolivia, Evo Morales, dos estrechos aliados políticos.El periodista e historiador Carlos Soria dijo a la AFP que el diario fue escrito por el Che en dos etapas: una de noviembre a diciembre de 1966 y otra de enero a octubre de 1967, días antes de ser capturado y ejecutado en Bolivia, cuando comandaba una guerrilla.El otro documento, un cuadernillo espiral, corresponde a otras anotaciones del legendario guerrillero sobre el curso de la lucha armada y sobre los rebeldes que lo acompañaron en el sureste de Bolivia.Una vez completada la tarea de copiar digitalmente ambos documentos, éstos serán guardados nuevamente en el Banco Central.El diario del Che estuvo en posesión de las Fuerzas Armadas de Bolivia hasta principios de la década de 1980, cuando el entonces presidente militar, Luis García Meza, los vendió a una casa inglesa de subastas, pero en 1986 fueron recuperados por el gobierno boliviano.Una réplica del diario llegó a manos de Castro en enero de 1968, sacado de Bolivia subrepticiamente por el ex ministro de Gobierno Antonio Arguedas.

La Habana, 7 jul (PL) Multivisión, el nuevo canal de la televisión cubana, comenzó a transmitir desde hoy a todo el país con una variada programación que incluye espacios recreativos y noticiosos del mundo entero, fundamentalmente latinoamericanos.El canal –quinto de alcance nacional- ofrecerá durante 24 horas una selección de programas procedentes de televisoras de Venezuela, Brasil, Ecuador, España y China, entre otros, así como los instructivos videos del canal Discovery, de amplia aceptación en esta Isla.Multivisión utilizará las antenas de los telecentros ubicados en todas las provincias del país, incluyendo el municipio especial Isla de la Juventud, en horarios en que no transmitan sus propias programaciones locales.Novelas, películas, animados y documentales, entre otros, se repondrán varias veces en el día, lo que permitirá a la teleaudiencia del país sintonizarlos según sus preferencias y gustos en los distintos horarios.Cuba cuenta ahora con Cubavisión, Tele Rebelde, el Canal Educativo, Canal Educativo 2 y Multivisión.
